They ARE Out There….

Ah yes…. Continuing the theme of the banquet… I met a young man yesterday who is handsome, employed, has faith in God, and is making changes in his career so that he can settle down, get married, and start a family. All he needs now is to meet the right woman. Yes, my friends, they are out there. Check out my Valentines gift to you. This could change your life.

LOVE: The Banquet or The Crumbs?

True Love: We all long for it, to have someone with whom we can let down our guard and be truly ourselves, who will encourage us to be our best selves, who will truly know us… not just the “us” we want others to see, but the true neurotic, imperfect crazy us… and still love us, still think we hung the moon. And will allow us to know and love them in the same way. Oh to be truly known and truly loved and to feel truly safe with another person and with ourselves. That’s true freedom – the banquet…. We all want it… so why why why is it so dang hard?

All I Don’t Want For Christmas

All I DON’T want for Christmas is…. that the people I love most in the world, will rush in, throw the gifts under the tree, have some coffee and pastries, open the gifts, and rush off to the next event. All I DO want for Christmas is… That we could come together, breathe, enjoy each other, work a puzzle, play a game, talk, laugh, go for a walk, cook something wonderful, just be. I don’t need another sweater. I need you. And you need me. I’d like to just put a bow on my head and sit under the tree

Giving Thanks, especially this year….

I’d like to post something I wrote last year at Thanksgiving, before I had a blog. I’m pulling it out of the file because it’s still fresh. We’re doing it all again this year, only adding my in-laws. Can’t wait. Pray for the turkey! Thanksgiving 2008 This year’s Thanksgiving took on a deeper meaning for me than ever before. I hosted my first Thanksgiving feast….. on Saturday. My Sister-in-Law, Linda, has “owned” Thanksgiving in our family for probably twenty years. My Mom and Dad, my sister and her husband and my niece and nephew all come to my brother’s home

Who Is God Anyway?

What if God is curious about what I’m going to cook for dinner? What if God is a big black woman in an apron cooking up something amazing in the kitchen, or a forty-something career woman in a windowless office, or a five-year old boy playing soccer, or a four-year old golden retriever? What if God is a warm breeze on a cold day, or the exhilaration of a black-diamond ski run? What if God is that huge harvest moon, or the view from glacier point? What if God is a little girl of mixed race? What if God is a Democrat?????!!!! What if God is all these things and wants to just hang out in my world? After all, isn’t that what Jesus did?

To Be Content… Or to Contend

I want us to stop playing small. Especially us women. We ask so little of ourselves and of others. There is this deep primal insecurity that teaches us that we are not worthy to be loved. I have talked to so many women, both clients and friends, who are picking up the pieces of their shattered dreams, wondering why they keep getting into relationships with men who only use and discard them, like disposable toys.

Marriage is a Three-Legged Race

Yesterday was the nine-year anniversary of my marriage to Steve Kraut. It amazes me how quickly time goes by. I still feel like we’re newlyweds trying to figure out what our marriage will look like, and what we want to do when we grow up. We still haven’t finished decorating the house, some of my stuff is still stored in the garage, and we’re just getting started. Yet I will turn 50 next year, and Steve will turn 65. He’ll be eligible for Medicare and I can start wearing all those purple and red things from the red-hat club. Marriage
